Papa Jon and Nana Dee left this morning. We sure had a fun long visit with them! It was sad to see them go.
Nathan’s Mom is on her flight and will be here in a few hours. We’re looking forward to her visit!

Nathan and the kids got their prize money checks from the State Fair today! (honorable mentions don’t get anything other than the knowledge that you were almost good enough, so no fun money for me…)
Nathan won $8!
Jaedin won $14
and Jenacy won $24!
~~~
A few days ago we were talking to our neighbor and Jaedin had taken my phone. I asked for it back and he said that he’s going to keep it. Brian said, “Phones are pretty expensive! You think you can afford a phone?” and Jaedin said, “Yeah!” Brian said, “How much do you think cell phones cost a month?” and Jaedin said, “Probably 5 cents.”
$14 must be an astronomical amount to him!
Way to go kids!!!
This morning we took the kids to the park to get their wiggles out before General Conference came on. Nathan and I were sitting on a bench having a nice conversation when Jenacy came over and wanted help on the monkey bars. We told her to go play for a little longer and when we’re done talking Nathan will help her.
So she runs across the playground and asks some stranger to help her. *Sigh* That’s our Jenacy.
Nathan got up and went and helped her swing across the monkey bars so that the stranger wouldn’t have to. Jaedin saw that and wanted to join. He was holding a big stick (pretend light saber), but he needed his hands free so he put the stick in his mouth. Nathan was on the opposite side of the monkey bars and he said, “Jaedin NO! STOP RIGHT NOW!“ But Jaedin jumped anyway. That’s our Jaedin.
The stick hit the ground and jabbed up in his mouth cutting the side and back of his throat pretty good. I didn’t know what to do so we just held him and waited. It stopped bleeding after a few minutes so we didn’t think he needed to go to the ER. I would have taken him to the dr if it wasn’t a weekend because I have no idea how to treat throat cuts!
We left the park after that and while we’re on the way home Jenacy says, “OW!!!” I asked her what’s wrong and she says she’s stuck a pretty (hair clip) up her nose. WHAT?!?! I told her not to touch her nose till we got home. We get home and sure enough, a hair clip is stuck up her nose. I got tweezers and pulled it out amid her crying that it hurt. Well, don’t stick things up your nose!!!
So, two trips to the doctor averted–for now, at least. I’m still worried about Jaedin’s throat. It’s obviously bothering him and he’s barely eating or drinking anything because it hurts so much. Why do things like this have to happen on a weekend?!
I stole this from Cari’s blog. Too funny!!!
When Jaedin was about 4 months old (April 2003), we were living in Oklahoma City. One morning, my friend Kim called and said that she’s going on a road trip to drop her daughter off at BYU-Idaho. She asked if Jaedin and I wanted to come along and be dropped off in Utah. YEAH! She was leaving in an hour, so I packed up really quickly and we were on our way! We drove for a long time that day and ended up at her parents home in New Mexico (they were there on their mission). It was late at night and the only thing I remember is sitting around talking aviation with Papa Jon for a little while (he’s a retired pilot). Fast forward 5 years, Papa Jon and Nana Dee are now living in their RV and touring around the country visiting their 10 children, 36 grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild! They were passing through TN and called us out of the blue last week and asked if they could stay with us for a little while. Sure! So we’ve been having fun with our fake grandparents!
Papa Jon listening as Jaedin read him a book
Papa Jon posing as Jenacy took photos of him! (with the classic Jenacy finger in the photo!)
Yesterday we went to the Belmont Mansion. It was a really great tour.
Out in front:
Pretty girl with pretty flowers
Nana Dee and Jenacy
After that we got a pizza and went to Centennial Park. Seriously, it was the tastiest pizza I think I’ve ever eaten!!! (although I think that just about any food that I don’t have to make myself tastes great!)
Then we went and fed the ducks and geese.
We brought the kids home and actually got them both to take naps! That hasn’t happened in years! After dinner we went and picked up Liam and Isabelle (Jaedin and Jenacy’s best friends!) and we went to the Shrine circus (Papa Jon and Nana Dee stayed home to watch the debate. boooorrrring haha).
Best friends:
And a rare photo where I’m not behind the camera!
Every time the lights would go dark, Isabelle would crawl over into my lap and Jenacy would crawl into Nathan’s lap. Cute girls
I think all the kids liked the tigers best. They even had the tigers jump through a flaming hoop. The kids loved it!
They also loved the elephants. This elephant did all sorts of tricks. It was cool!
My favorite part was these acrobatic women who climbed up these long panels of cloth and then did all sorts of tricks while holding the cloth. Hmm…that description probably doesn’t make sense, but it was really, really cool to watch!
All the kids were super cute through the circus and we all had a great time!
I picked our carrot crop! A lot of the carrots were really small, but we had LOTS of them. After peeling and chopping, we got 3 bags of carrots in the freezer! Yay!
Out of the 31 days in October, we’ve got fun things planned on 18 of the days! On most months we only have maybe 4 days of fun things! This is going to be a crazy busy FUN month! (5 more days until Nathan’s Mom comes to visit! Two weeks till we’re sittin’ on a cruise ship! 3 weeks till we meet LaTonia! Hurray for October!)
We’ve got some friends visiting for a few days, Papa Jon and Nana Dee. They’re the parents of our friend Kim (she’s the one that visited from Oklahoma last month).
Papa Jon is all grandpa. He isn’t just letting the kids get away with everything, he’s totally instigating them into mischief! Of course, Jaedin and Jenacy absolutely love him for it!
He said, “Ya know why grandkids and grandparents get along so well? It’s cuz we’ve got the same enemy!”
One of the other pilots at Nathan’s work also lives on our side of the river and rides his bike to work to avoid the huge drive to get around the river.
Nathan and Thomas were in the office yesterday when that pilot came back from a trip. Nathan asked him if he’d heard about the trolls yet, since he was going to have to face them on his bike. They all had a good laugh and that made the other guy remember another story he heard from the same crazy dispatcher.
I guess about 10 years ago the Cumberland River flooded. The airport and where Opryland used to be are right by the river, fairly close to each other, but on opposite sides of the river. Opryland used to have a little zoo, and when the river flooded somehow the lions got out of their cages. The crazy dispatcher is convinced that the lions mated with the local bobcats and now there are boblions in the woods. *shiver* I sure hope they don’t mate with the monkey-dogs…
A guy came and checked out Nathan’s company several months ago with hopes to buy a share of the company. We thought he was going to, but then no one heard anything about it for forever so we mostly lost hope (his company is run by a guy that is 108 years old and isn’t mentally in the game anymore).
Nathan found out yesterday that the guy bought the company! Not just a share, he bought the whole company, the airport, the land, everything. It’s not official until Oct. 31, so we’re holding our breath for a month hoping nothing changes.
Seriously, this is great news! The company has always been focused on it’s mechanic department more than it’s charter department, even though the charter department is where they’re getting all their money. This new guy wants to buy all new airplanes (the ones they’re flying right now are almost 40 years old), and he wants to make the charter department the spotlight of the company and really expand the charter side of the business. We’re super excited!
Seriously, our year just keeps getting better and better! ![]()
